More advice on Ivy League style

More advice on what to wear at the Ivy League universities, straight from breakfast at the Cornell Club during the frigid first half of February.

People were wearing what looked to me like survival gear.

I thought, "Wow, these Cornellians, they already have everything it takes to survive a Cornell winter. It must be very cold up there in Ithaca, because they didn't buy this stuff yesterday."

So my advice to you is when you're thinking ahead, dreaming of wherever you're going to go to school: wait until you get there to buy your stuff. First of all, you don't really know what the weather's going to be like. And second, you don't know what the style of that school is.

You want to fit in with your new friends, right? So don't think you have to pack everything you own. Plus, you'll save a lot of money on extra airline fees. Just get it when you're there.

I'm wondering whether the bookstore at Cornell sells expedition gear.

P.S. To be clear: now that New York is back to its usual miserable, but not life-threatening, winter weather, denizens of the Cornell Club are back to looking like everyone else in midtown Manhattan.
